With fall right around the corner, our wardrobes are starting to shift from t-shirts and tank tops to cozy cardigans and knit dresses. Target makes sure we’re ready for this change every September, with their fall designer collaboration. This year, the brand has teamed up with three designers whose designs are as inspiring and impeccable as the stories behind them. Colombian designer Kiki Vargas, New York City-based trio La Ligne, and Los Angeles-based, South Carolina-bred designer Sergio Hudson have created three distinct lines for Target that will be available to shop starting October 9th. With over a hundred pieces, all under $40, Target’s Fall Designer Collection provides a wide variety of options to vamp up your fall look.
Meet the Designers:
Kiki Vargas
Kika Vargas is a Colombian designer whose designs stand out for their puffy sleeves, bright colors, and floral patterns. Vargas told Keke that her designs for this Target collection were very much influenced by her Colombian heritage, such as in the vibrancy of the color palette and the fabric designs. For example, she said that one of the coral prints was inspired by the ocean because Columbia borders both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Vargas shared that the brand is ten years old, but was recently relaunched in 2019 and has been sourcing and manufacturing all the materials for her clothes locally in Colombia, which helps make the process more sustainable. Vargas is excited to have her work reach a larger audience through the Target partnership. “As a Colombian, sometimes you can feel that you’re a bit far from the fashion industry core,” she told Elle Magazine. “So these kind of opportunities really shine a light not only on the brand but also on our country and our industry.”
La Ligne
La Ligne is a chic, New York City-based fashion brand that is focused on stripes. According to their website, founders and former Vogue editors Valerie Macaulay and Meredith Melling, and Molly Howard joined with one goal to “translate the stripe into a collection that would empower women of all ages with effortless self-expression.” Their Target collection embodies this ethos, with striped pants, scarves, shirts, and cardigans of different stripe sizes and colors. “We really wanted to make pieces that become important in people’s wardrobes and closets, with core pieces that they can wear day after day, week after week, season after season, because we don’t really make clothing that is trend-driven,” Howard told Fashionista.
Sergio Hudson
Sergio Hudson is a luxury women’s ready-to-wear designer who creates showstopping statement pieces featuring brightly colored fabrics and sleek, tailored silhouettes. His clothes have been donned by the likes of Michelle Obama and Béyonce, who respectively wore a pantsuit and blazer dress designed by him. For him, the Target collection is extra special, because it will be offering his clothes in a wide variety of sizes from XXS to 4XL. According to PEOPLE Magazine, Hudson knows what it’s like to not be able to walk into a store and find something in his size, so he makes custom clothing for plus-sized shoppers. Because expanding into larger sizes for his designer collection is not in his budget as of now, Hudson is excited to see a more inclusive range of sizes offered by Target. “My collection starts at a 0 and I push it even doing a 16, because with the grading, the costs are so expensive. To be able to reach every woman [with the Target collection] is a gift,” he said to PEOPLE Magazine. His Target collection features a bold houndstooth coat, a purple dress and blazer combo, and a hot pink pantsuit.
The designer collaboration collections will be available to shop beginning October 9th on Target.com and in select stores. See a sneak peek of the collection below:
