“Redefine Beauty” seeks to combat the Eurocentric beauty standards that have been weaponized against Black and African American women by highlighting the attributes often possessed by these women. The piece contains negative statements that have been directed towards this community due, in part, to society’s constant critique of women’s beauty. Black and African American women stand at the intersection of many marginalized identities while facing societal pressures to conform to a myriad of ideals, including idealized beauty. Ultimately, the Redefine Beauty campaign encourages Black and African American women to embrace the features that make them unique and others to reconsider their definition of beauty.
