Not Just Another Pretty Girl
by Chloe Xiang
I have pretty blue eyes
But I have a prettier inside
The way my paint brush dances across my creations
The way I manifest my wildest dreams
The way my voice rises against the injustices of life-
I may have a structured nose
And plump lips
But I am not just another pretty girl.
This editorial featuring teen artist Julia Hames depicts the often misunderstood girl. Photographer Chloe Xiang portrays this through her capture of a girl’s solemn emotions and usage of various conflicting colors. Through the makeup adorning her natural beauty, many times people seem to only notice this layer of a girl. Failing to see the true contents of her, they are unable to hear what she has to say and admire her creations rather than her appearance. Enhanced by the gold glitter makeup tears, the editorial reveals makeup as an art, not to be confused with insecurity. Many girls are beautiful to look at, but their minds are far more beautiful to experience.
