Namilia’s A/W 2017 collection epitomized avant-garde, with their unapologetic graphics, details, and bold cutouts and color palette. What really felt the loudest wasn’t the the bright graphics declaring “Trumpocalypse” or the flames sprouting out the puffer coats, but rather it was the underlying message of the collection. As described by the Berlin based designers Nan Li and Emilia Pfohl, “The NAMILIA Warrior Queens fight back against devaluation of powerful Women as sexual and dangerous” and “The need for women to dress in a masculine way in order to be taken seriously ends now”. These messages are quite powerful and it’s about time that we change these types of mindsets towards females. Through this fashion collection, Namilia not only offers a challenge to conventional fashion standards, but also redefines beauty standards through the diversity of the models. The collection is more of a societal message than purely one of fashion, as nowadays fashion is becoming more and more internal than external. Namilia’s collection, inspired by the Post-Apocalyptic Rave and Techno Culture, demonstrates “sensual and youthful power-dressing”. These looks are not constrained by any gender stereotypes or societal expectations, but instead help further advance femininity and fashion with a strong statement.
